Microbiological tests for cosmetics and household chemicals.

For cosmetics and household chemicals, microbiological testing is crucial in verifying their safety. It involves analyzing the presence of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and molds, which can impact product quality and safety.

Microbiological purity test of cosmetics and household chemicals.

Microbiological purity testing is one of the basic tests aimed at controlling their quality and safety. Regulation of the European Parliament and of the EC Council No. 1223/2009 obliges producers to comply with this principle and care for product quality. The microbiological purity of cosmetics, household chemicals, and other products is influenced by, among other things, the quality and purity of the raw materials used in production. Furthermore, storage and use methods are crucial, as are the technological process and product packaging. Excessive bacterial growth negatively impacts product quality, potentially causing allergic reactions, skin irritations, inflammation, and illness. To prevent such situations, product formulations should be designed to inhibit the growth of microorganisms both during production and use.

Microbiological purity tests are performed in accordance with ISO standards:

  • EN ISO 21149 – total number of microbes
  • EN ISO 22718 – presence of Staphylococcus aureus
  • EN ISO 22717 – presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • EN ISO 18416 – presence of Candida albicans
  • EN ISO 21150 – presence of Escherichia coli
  • EN ISO 16212 – number of molds and yeasts

additionally, at the customer’s request, we mark the presence of:

  • Burkholderia Cepacia
  • Enterobacter Sakazakii
  • Bacillus Cereus

Skin microbiome test

This is an assessment of the pathogen reduction effect and the appearance of symbiotic microorganisms, before and after application of the product.

PAO

Microbiological tests for cosmetics, household chemicals- microbiological purity tests, challange tests, antibacterial properties, water activity, skin microbiome.

„Period After Opening” (PAO) is a term that indicates how long a product is safe to use after opening. The PAO symbol is graphically represented as an opened cosmetic with a number and the letter „M” inside, indicating the number of months the product remains stable and safe after first use.

Challange tests for cosmetics - tests of the effectiveness of the preservative system

These tests ensure that the selected preservatives protect the cosmetic product against microbial growth and prevent the development of secondary infections during product use. They involve infecting the tested cosmetic product with strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aurerus, Candida albicans, and Aspergillus brasiliensis and monitoring the reduction of microorganisms over time. Challange tests for cosmetic should be performed at various stages of product development and implementation, as well as during production. A good preservative should be effective against microorganisms even at low concentrations, act quickly, and be safe for humans.

We offer challange tests in accordance with PN:EN ISO 11930.

Water activity test

The water activity test is dedicated to anhydrous cosmetics, oil forms, eye shadows, talcum powders and powders. The test determines the level of water activity of the product in order to exclude the ability to multiply microorganisms in the product. In products with water activity (Aw) ≤ 0.7, there is no possibility of multiplication of microorganisms, these products are exempt from performing preservation tests.

We offer water activity testing in accordance with: PN ISO 21807:2005, EN ISO 29621:2017
